The staff of Family Based Services of New Jersey (FBSANJ) is comprised of parents and caregivers of children with challenges related to mental and behavioral health, substance abuse, and developmental delays. Our organization is unique because we are PARENTS supporting PARENTS. We provide support, education, and advocacy to families in Monmouth County and have sister organizations in each county throughout New Jersey.
We are the Monmouth County peer support partner organization in the New Jersey Children’s System of Care, a department of the NJ Department of Children and Families. The Children’s System of Care affords wraparound care management to all qualifying children in the state. Services are provided regardless of family income or insurance eligibility.
Family Based Services Association of NJ provides telephone support to parents and / or caregivers who have children with behavioral challenges, mental illness, I/DD, and substance abuse challenges. We can help guide you through difficult times and help empower yourself to make a plan that best suits your family’s needs. We will help connect you to wraparound services, community resources, and / or support providers in Monmouth County including support groups in and around Monmouth County.

I taught literacy skills to teens with special needs in NJ, NY, and Manila while raising my own family. I have three great kids (young adults), two of whom are wonderful, successful, and generous individuals in spite of their mental health / learning challenges. I have always believed that it's our responsibility to support and empower others to live the fullest lives they can. FBSANJ's mission speaks directly to my heart.
In peer support, we truly help ourselves while helping others. Our personal experiences with our own children gives us the unique ability to help others. It's important for parents and caregivers to feel supported in their individual process--empowering families is the most rewarding part of the work that we do.
Family Support Partners
It's my belief system that there is more happiness in giving than receiving. Everyone has strengths and talents--they just need support in finding them. Giving of myself allows me to pay it forward and work with the unique differences within families.
1. I do this so no other caregiver feels like I did and no other child has a caregiver ignorant to a challenging system like my son did.
2. I do this so that there are more caregivers who have a voice than there are that feel that they don't.
3. I do this to validate feelings that myself and my family didn't suffer for nothing, that every hurdle has a purpose, and every victory is proof of that.
I am able to understand what others are going through. I enjoy making a difference in people's lives by providing resources and providing hope to people. I am an example that when the work is done, it works! Empowering supports and with education through information, I was able to find the ability to self-advocate. I value the support that I received and when I was given the opportunity to be able to help in ways that I was helped. I was thrilled! I am eternally grateful to Family Based Services!
Supporting, educating, and teaching self-advocacy skills are the goals of a Peer Support Partner. The outcome of my efforts produce enriching and exceptional experiences for myself and my families. I carry these influential memories which inspire me to become a understanding and compassionate woman.
